Pickup and delivery
Pickup and Delivery
What days do you pick up and deliver?
Monday through Friday, from 9 am - 2 pm. We cannot say in that window because our route is created every morning and updates with changes in traffic, but we will send you a text when we are on the way with an ETA.
How does next-day delivery work?
We come to your house or business, pick up your laundry, then bring it back to the laundromat. We wash, dry, fold, and deliver it the next day.
What if I'm not home for pickup or delivery?
You do not need to be home. If you are comfortable leaving it outside where we can access it, that is the easiest way about it. Preferably under something to protect from the rain.
Do you text or email before you arrive?
Yes, we send out a text when we are on the way with an ETA.
Do you offer same-day service, or is next-day the fastest option?
Next-day is our fastest option for DELIVERY - if you can drop it off at 1561 E Lafayette St, Detroit MI 48207, we can get it done same day if you drop it off before noon.
How is this different from other laundry delivery apps?
We are a locally owned, family business that focuses on quality and consistency. We have regular all-staff meetings where we go over processes, folding, customer service, and areas we can improve. The skill level of our launderer's is why our customers keep coming back and why we have such great reviews on google.
What's the turnaround time from pickup to delivery?
We pickup Monday-Friday with next day delivery. Orders that are picked up are available for delivery as early as Monday.

Wash and fold process
Wash and Fold Process
What detergent do you use?
We use a commercial-grade enzyme detergent that is non-scented and easy on the skin. We have tested it side-by-side with household detergents and our commercial-grade detergent gets the stains out better. We use bounce sheets in the dryer for scent.

Available by requent at no extra charge: Tide, Gain, All Free Clear, Oxiclean.
Do you separate darks and lights automatically?
This is our most common question! Yes, we separate. You don't need to do it.
Can I request specific instructions (cold wash, no dryer sheets, etc.)?
Yes, we will do your laundry how you want it done. There is a notes section on the last screen before you place the order where you can put instructions. They will print out on our ticket every time.
How are my clothes kept separate from other customers?
Some large commercial laundries will use mesh bags and wash several loads together - not us. We always keep your laundry seperate. We keep track of it using a modern point of sale system. Like any business, ocassionally we make mistakes, but we always figure it out and correct it quickly.
Do you handle bedding and towels?
Yes, we specialize in bedding and towels because of how many short term rentals we have worked with. We know our laundry chemistry well enough to say with confidence: your linens and towels will last longer when Detroit Laundry Service is taking care of them.

Our team has regular group training to ensure consistency. How many laundry services can say that?
Can you handle allergies or sensitive skin (fragrance-free, hypoallergenic detergent)?
Yes, we use a fragrance-free detergent that still does a great job getting stains out. We do use Bounce sheets in the dryer as our standard process, so in the notes, say "All Free & Clear Sheets."

Alternatively, we have many customers that send their own products.
How do you make sure I get my own clothes back, not someone else's?
We tag every bag right away. When it is brought back to the laundromat, the launderers note the washer and dryer numbers that were used on your ticket. When it is folded, we put it in a reusable Detroit Laundry Service bag that you get with your first order with a name tag on it.
Are you insured? What happens if something gets lost or damaged?
Yes, we are insured to be on your property. In the rare event that something is damaged, lost, or stolen, the customer will be compensated in the amount of three times the value of their order at maximum.
What temperature do you wash at?
It depends on what we are washing. If it is towels and sheets, we use hot water. If it is normal color clothing, warm. Many of our machines have a delicate cycle if necessary. The launderer's are experienced enough to know what temperature is appropriate. However, if you have any requests, they print out on the ticket every time and we will follow them. Just add it to the notes section on the ordering screen.
Can I request eco-friendly or unscented detergent?
Our standard detergent is unscented, but does an amazing job getting stains out. Eco-friendly detergent doesn't, but if you want us to use it, send it with your laundry and we will.
What happens if an item is stained or damaged before service?
Our detergent is more powerful than the detergent you have access to. We've done the tests! Our machines are more powerful than the washers you have access to. Our normal process is going to do a good job getting out most stains. If you have an item that is stained, bag is seperate and put a note in there so it is obvious to us and we will prespot it.

Getting started
Getting Started
Do I need to do anything before I arrive?
Nope. Just bring your laundry in. We take cash, card, apple pay, google pay, and EBT - no quarters needed.
What's the first step when I walk in?
Grab an open washer, load your clothes, and add detergent. If you're not sure which machine size fits your load or how the payment system works, an attendant is on-site to help.
Do I need my own detergent and dryer sheets?
You're welcome to bring your own, or purchase detergent on-site if you forget it.
How long does a wash and dry cycle take?
A standard wash cycle runs 28 minutes, and drying typically takes another 30 to 45 minutes depending on load size.
What if I want someone else to do it for me instead?
That's what our Wash & Fold service is for — drop off your laundry and our attendants will wash, dry, and fold it for you the same day if dropped off before noon.
Can I use a laundry card instead of paying per visit?
Yes, laundry cards are available and reloadable. You can check your balance anytime at LaundryCat.com.
Can I leave my laundry unattended while it's washing or drying?
Yes, many customers step out to run errands or grab food nearby. Just keep an eye on the time so you can move your load promptly when it's done, since machines are shared.
What happens if a machine doesn't work properly?
Let an attendant know right away. We're on-site during all open hours and will get you moved to a working machine or make it right. We have a technician on-staff and maintain our machines so well, most customers never have a problem.

Yes, that's exactly what our extra-large washers are for. No need to split it across smaller machines.
What's the largest capacity washer at Lafayette Laundromat?
